Explore the Different Fumo Sizes

One of the first things that catches new collectors off guard is just how many sizes a Fumo can come in. What starts as "I'll get one Fumo" often turns into "I need one of each size" fairly quickly. Here is a rundown of every official size in the lineup, so you know exactly what you are looking at before you buy.

Standard Fumos, around 20cm

This is where almost everyone starts. Standard Fumos sit at roughly 20 centimeters tall, though that number moves around depending on the character. Reisen and Tewi, for example, end up noticeably taller because of their long rabbit ears, and Okina is usually displayed with her chair, which adds to her overall height as well. With close to a hundred standard-sized characters released so far, this is by far the largest category and the easiest one to build a real collection around.

Mannaka Fumos, around 40cm

Mannaka means "middle" in Japanese, and that is exactly what this size is: double the height of a standard Fumo, landing around 40 centimeters. They take up noticeably more shelf space and cost more too, but for fans of a particular character, going Mannaka is a popular way to make that plush the centerpiece of a display. As with the standard line, characters with long ears or extra accessories can end up a bit taller than the average.

Deka Fumos, around 70 to 80cm

Deka comes from the Japanese word dekai, meaning huge, and it is not an exaggeration. These are four times the size of a standard Fumo, which puts them at roughly 70 to 80 centimeters tall. Gift introduced them back in 2009, and because of the cost and complexity of producing something that large, they have always been released in much smaller quantities than the standard line. There was actually an eight-year gap with no new Dekas at all, between 2012 and 2020, which pushed secondhand prices for the originals up considerably. Expect to pay several hundred dollars, sometimes into the thousands, if you are chasing one of these.

Small 17cm Fumos

The newest addition to the family is a slightly smaller version of the standard size, sitting at 17 centimeters. So far only two characters have received this treatment, and they were first sold in mid-2025 at a convention appearance before becoming available through select storefronts. It is a fairly limited size for now, but one worth keeping an eye on if it becomes more widely available.

Toy Straps and other small variants

Beyond the main sizes, Gift has also released smaller strap versions meant to be attached to bags or keychains. These are compact, more affordable, and a nice way to bring a favorite character along without dedicating shelf space to them.

Which size should you start with

If you are just getting into Fumos, standard size is almost always the right entry point. It is the most affordable, has by far the widest character selection, and pairs well with just about any display setup. Once you find a character you really connect with, that is usually when a Mannaka or a Deka starts to look tempting.
