How to Wash Your Fumofumo
Prepare the basin: Fill a basin with cold water. Hot water must be strictly avoided, as it risks melting the internal glue of the Fumo and deforming the fabric.
Add the detergent: Pour in a small amount of delicate detergent for hand washing or neutral baby shampoo (avoid standard laundry detergents, as they are too harsh). If your Fumo has wearable accessories, it is recommended to remove and wash them separately.
Begin washing: Submerge the Fumo and squeeze it very gently inside the basin to allow it to absorb the soapy water. Let it soak for about 10 minutes (avoid leaving it submerged for too long).
Rinse thoroughly:: Empty the soapy water from the basin. Hold the plush under cold running water and continue squeezing it gently until the detergent is completely washed out.
Drying: Remove as much water as possible by pressing the Fumo between your hands or patting it with a clean towel. Place it to dry in a clean, well-ventilated area, strictly away from direct sunlight.
Products and tools to avoid!
Washing machine and dryer: Centrifugal spinning and mechanical movements risk tearing or deforming the plush, while dryer heat melts the glue and burns the Fumo's polyester.
Hot water and hair dryer:: Heat permanently ruins delicate fabrics, prints, or felt details. While using a hair dryer on a cold setting is possible, it is still not recommended, after all your Fumo isn't going to run away from its owner!
Bleach and harsh stain removers: Absolutely avoid bleach, which can cause permanent damage leaving stains on the fabric which cannot be removed.
Fabric softener: Creates a synthetic film that attracts more dust over time and risks staining the fabric.
Hard-bristled or wire brushes: They can fray or damage the velour-like fabric, pull out threads, and ruin the stitching. Instead, we recommend using soft brushes or lint rollers to catch pet hair, as wire brushes would pull out the Fumo's threads and seams. (Tip: Slightly dampening the soft brush helps collect surface dust even better!)
Damaged fumofumo: If the Fumo is already damaged, fraying, or has open seams that could tear further during washing, we strongly advise against washing it to prevent making the damage worse.
